India has roughly 62 million stray dogs and 35 million owned dogs — the world's largest dog population. Fewer than 1% carry any form of verifiable identity. No chip, no tag, no record that follows the animal across cities or clinics. When a dog goes missing, it becomes a description. When a dog is brought into a vet clinic with no owner, its vaccination history disappears. When a shelter sterilises a stray, that record often exists only on paper, in a single office, in one city.
Microchips solve part of this — but they require a scanner that almost no Indian shelter, municipality pound, or roadside vet owns. Muzzl uses a different ID: the dog's nose print. Permanent from birth. Readable by any smartphone. No hardware required on either end. A feeder registers a stray on a Tuesday; a vet in another neighbourhood scans it three months later and sees the full history. That's the network we're building.
We're starting in Pune and expanding city by city. Every registration makes the network more valuable. Every vet, shelter, and feeder who joins adds another layer of coverage for every dog in India.
